An acne scar is the result of inflammation caused by acne, within dermis of the skin. When an acne lesion heals, a hyper-pigmentation mark is formed on the skin. Usually, these marks take 6–12 months to heal. If the mark does not heal in that period, then it may be an acne scar. Treatment for acne scar removal should be done as soon as they occur. In acne scar removal, treatments are very popular and advanced due to the experience and expertise of the cosmetic surgeons available.

There are several types of acne scar removal procedures such as

  • Cosmetic procedures
  • Surgical procedures
  • Dermabrasion
  • Injectables
  • Laser procedures

The surgical procedure involves three finest treatments for removing acne scars. They are dermal fillers, subcutaneous incision and punch excision. In dermal fillers, collagen is injected under the scars. This causes the scars to elevate to the level of surrounding skin. In subcutaneous incision, the deep scar tissue is cut from the normal skin tissue. The cut made may clot the blood and elevate the scar. In punch excision, a tool is used to cut the scars and wound is covered with teri-strips and skin glue.
